How To Clean An Old Bell
Check back each week for tips and advice from a star we love.
Don't let Catherine Bell's girly-girl looks fool you—she's fierce. From her love for extreme sports and motorcycles (she's been riding since 17) to her military-inspired acting roles, the Iranian-American actress defies the standard of beauty in Hollywood. You may know her from her popular role on JAG as a Marine lawyer. She now plays a military wife with a big secret on Lifetime's Army Wives. When she's not acting, she spends her free time with husband Adam Beason and 4-year-old daughter Gemma.
What inspired you to take the role on Army Wives?
It was a great script and it was a very different character from my role on JAG. I love the change she is going through.
You've been married over a decade. How do you keep the spice in your marriage? Also, what advice would you give to newlyweds or those who are trying to make their marriages work?
My husband Adam and I just had our 13th anniversary. We joke all the time about us really being married triple times that in our industry. The best advice I can give is to communicate and be honest. We don't have any secrets. If we have a problem, we talk about it. We never go to bed angry. Also, you have to create romance. Things aren't always going to be lovey-dovey as in the beginning. You have to create what you want.
You've mentioned that you're addicted to technology and gadgets. What one gadget can you not live without?
My PDA. It's my phone, address book, calendar, Internet and more. I don't know what I'd do without it.
You consider yourself a tomboy and sports lover—what's your all-time favorite sport?
I actually just left a golf lesson. Golf is becoming one of my favorites. But I must say my number one sport right now is lakeboarding.
What's your favorite way to stay in shape?
I like to mix it up so I don't get bored. I'll do Pilates one day, weight training the next and I'll take a walk on the beach the third day. Then I'll rest the following day. The key is to mix it up and make it fun.
Do you have a favorite inspirational quote?
"A culture is only as great as its dreams, and its dreams are dreamed by artists," [said L. Ron Hubbard.]—Crystal Tate, Assistant Editor
Army Wives airs on Lifetime, Sunday nights at 10pm.
